Invisalign vs Braces. Which is better?

E-mail Print PDF

invisalign hand with trayMany pages could be written on the differences between braces and Invisalign. Patients initially intrigued by Invisalign, having resisted conventional appliances for so long, often ask if braces would be more effective. There is no simple answer to this, and any orthodontist who gives a stock answer is unfamiliar with Invisalign.

First, understand that both braces and the Invisalign aligners are tools that permit similar alignment of teeth. With braces, the force required to move a tooth is delivered via tension provided by elastics or metal wires, to a point of force located in the center of each brace. Aligners provide force as each subsequent tray is fabricated with the tooth positions slightly straighter than the prior aligner, the force being placed over the entire surface of each tooth.

Why choose our New York City Invisalign / Invisaline Dental Office?

Why choose our Invisalign Practice?

invisalign profileWell the answer is very simple yet complicated. Invisalign is a product. We offer you a service. Products are used; services are experienced

What do we mean? Simple. Invisalign is a technology developed by Align technologies. The process involved in developing invisalign trays is mostly automated and a typical dentist offering the invisalign product simply inserts the trays into your mouth and sends you on your way. Not caring how the outcome will eventually be. They will charge you a fee and regardless or not if your case turns out as it is supposed to as predicted by the clincheck you will be stuck with the results for the rest of your life. Too many dentists out there are taking advantage of this technology and as a result are offering sub-standard services to their patients.

Invisalign is a "theoretical" technology that achieves a virtual solution to orthodontic problems. The effectiveness can be far reaching but is not fully considered by many dentists. Many dentists allow invisalign technicians (who are usually not dentists) to do the treatment planning because of a lack of knowledge of the limitations of this technology and orthodontics.

Dr Douglas Magner is a trained Orthodontist with 25+ years of experience.

Have you had Invisalign but are unhappy with the results?

E-mail Print PDF

unhappy with invisalign bracesThis unfortunately is a not too uncommon scenario. Invisalign is a technology that basically eliminates any input from a dentist. A typical dentist will usually have his assistants take pictures and models of your mouth which is then sent to Invisalign. Invisalign then responds with a clincheck which is accepted by the dental office. Once that approval is received the aligners are fabricated and sent to the dentist. Next the dentist gives the aligners to the patient and the patient is sent on his merry way, none the wiser.

This is NOT how this technology supposed to be used! (Call our office if this has happened to you). Align is not a provider of medical, dental or healthcare services and does not and cannot practice medicine, dentistry or give medical advice.Decisions about treatment are to be made by the doctor and the doctor is solely responsible for evaluating wether the approaches  and techniques are appropriate for the patient.  Invisalign is a tool just like any other available in the dental office. It is to be supervised and rendered by the dentist, not some 'guy' with a mouse in Mexico (Where Invisalign manufactures your aligners) or a dental assistant. Most initial Clinchecks are returned to the practice innacurate and must then be reviewed and corrected by the treating dentist.  Most Invisalign "full" cases come with 2 free refinements and mid course corrections. Which is performed when the aligners do not meet expectations. It is your responsibility to know this and demand this service from your dentist if you are unhappy with your Invisalign results

Anyone who is unhappy with their new Invisalign smile can have it fixed. Our office will provide you with a free consultation on what you can do to correct your smile.
